Exclusive AuthorAssist Packages

Affordable packages to meet your needs, regardless of your book publishing stage, we provide the "HOW TOs:

THE "START YOUR BOOK" PACKAGE

You were invaluable in helping me see my project through from the earliest stages to publication. You read my manuscript with an impartial thoughtfulness and with intelligence. You made helpful suggestions for change and aided me to implement them. Your editing was always for the improvement of the work. Now that my book has been published and is receiving the positive comments of others, I truly know it couldn't have been done without you.

Sharon Romm, MD, Seattle, WA, author of Dating After 50, published by Quill Driver Books.

You are at the beginning of writing your book--and haven't a clue as to where or how to start. At AuthorAssist, we break the "getting started" process into small, manageable steps and help you organize your thoughts into a Getting Started Blueprint for your book.

Here's how it works:

It's a collaborative process--a series of fifteen exercises that results in your personal blueprint for starting your book--including branding, positioning, marketing, and a table of contents--everything you need for the next step--writing your book. The collaborative process requires you to rethink and finalize your thoughts, structure, target audience, etc. That means you will NOT waste time and energy, going off in the wrong direction. You will view your ideas in a whole new light and bring renewed enthusiasm and optimism to your book project.

As a first step, I'll send you the initial exercises to start the guidebook--then respond to your initial responses. We will continue through all of the exercises in that manner, working on specific sections at a time. As you finish sections, I'll review them and make suggestions for changes.

At the end of the process you will have your own personal blueprint for getting your book started--and you will be confident you (and your book) are headed in the right direction.

All work is done at your pace and schedule--however "nagging" is included!

To get started, e-mail your information to us.

"WRITE A COMMERCIALLY VIABLE BOOK" (FICTION)

After receiving my MFA, publishing many stories, and receiving awards for my writing, I knew I was a skilled writer. But, like any writer, I have areas in my work that need improvement. Trish, you gave me exceptional, directive support in those areas – in my case, plot and wordiness. With your guidance, it took me only six months to write the book I’ve been trying to write for years -- and to get a top New York literary agent to represent me. Now, a major publishing house has bought the rights and will be publishing it. You led me (at times hand-held me) through the process of creating a superb query and synopsis. I could not have done this without you.

Kerry Cohen Hoffmann, MFA, Lennox, MA, author of Easy, Simon & Schuster 2006.

You have written one or more drafts of your book and want to make sure your writing is structured and clear, but you are so close to it. You can't begin to know if it's any good. That's when an objective, professional opinion becomes essential to finishing your book. Choose from fiction and nonfiction packages.

The "Fiction Review"Package (Fiction)

Whether you are on your first, second, third or final draft of your novel, we help keep your writing focused and moving in the right direction.

As we read your manuscript, we take note of the critical aspects of writing:

  • structure
  • plot
  • setting
  • character development
  • voice
  • dialogue
  • motivation
  • logic
  • point of view
  • continuity
  • pace
  • veracity of facts
  • word usage
  • tone
  • your specific concerns about your writing

In your e-mail report, you'll find suggestions on how to improve common problems such as overwriting, unclear writing, use of passive voice, and exposition. You'll see where you have repeated words, used stilted language, or overused adverbs and adjectives. Best of all, the rewritten sample passages from your manuscript will show you how to turn bewildering passages into marvelous prose.

Your 10+ page report will be like an entire course on writing -- all of it applied to your manuscript.

Trish, working with you was like taking a step out of the 21st century business world. You got back to me promptly, did the work on time, and were beyond what I could call efficient. Your prices were so affordable compared to the competition yet you provided such expertise. Your query materials landed me a publisher who realized the power of my book. Not only did you help me with all that, but your editing of my web site bio and resume will help me sell my books. You are an absolute diamond and I will use you over and over again. Thanks Trish for everything.

The "Query/Synopsis/Agent Search" Package (Fiction)

So you want to get published traditionally--by a large, mainstream publisher. You've spent years, months, or perhaps only weeks, pouring out your heart, your ideas onto the page. Your manuscript is great--says your family--and your friends like it too. Way to go! Or is it? Is your material really ready? Is it commercially viable? Does it have a chance? Or should you figure on self-publishing right away? Based on your publishing goals, AuthorAssist helps you strategize the best course of action for your manuscript.

The first step in traditional publishing is to get a literary agent to represent your book. Knowing that literary agents get 100+ queries a week (nearly 5000 a year), how do you get your query materials to stand out? How do you write with the sizzle to hook an agent? What's expected in the letter? What should be in the synopsis? Is the manuscript really good enough? We can help you determine the status and prospects of your manuscript.

We understand your doubts, your hopes, and your dreams so we make the agent search process as painless as possible with our Query/Synopsis Development Package. Our collaborative process results in a polished query letter, compelling synopsis, agent list and contact directions. and, access to our agent search expertise 24/7.

For the literary agent directories, those agents who have made recent sales are listed first, followed by those who live in the major metropolitan areas for book publishing, followed by those living outside of the major areas. "TRADITIONAL PUBLISHING: PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT (NONFICTION)

Trish, I received the final version of the nonfiction proposal and it looks great. I can't thank you enough for your help. I see now that although I think I'm a pretty good writer, I didn't know jack crap about writing a proposal. I cringe at the thought of sending my original draft to my prospective agent. Thank goodness I came to you. Very impressive. ... And now I've been signed by a top New York literary agent.

Jon Ibrahim, Chicago, IL, author of Chicago Tribune Redeye column, "The Sex Playbook"

"Proposal Development" Package (Nonfiction)

Realize, if you're approaching agents and/or publishers with a nonfiction book, they expect a comprehensive book proposal. It is important to understand the critical role of the nonfiction book proposal as your sales tool.

You must write a proposal that convinces a literary agent and, subsequently an editor, your book is worth publishing.Your agent will submit the proposal to editors who will use it as a selling tool to convince other decision makers at their publishing houses to invest in your book. These other decision makers include the senior editorial staff, plus members of the sales, marketing and publicity departments. Since sales and marketing departments have significant input in the decision, your proposal must be convincing as to the book’s commercial viability. In addition you will need a query letter and bio. We can help you develop these materials.

2. Sample chapter (s): we'll  tackle the chapter(s)  in the same manner -- review, suggestions, and edits.

3. Query letter and bio: We'll send instructions/samples and you will write/revise the letter and bio. We'll make comments/edits until we're sure both are compelling.

4. We identify agents and strategize your approach. We e-mail customized and targeted contact information for agents interested in your genre. For the literary agent directories, those agents who have made recent sales are listed first, followed by those who live in the major metropolitan areas for book publishing, followed by those living outside of the major areas.
